The Rouge

 British photographer Michael Kenna is best known for his black-and-white landscape photography in which he often utilizes drawn-out exposure times, some up to 10 hours in length. Kenna's photographs provide a glimpse into the provocative and subtle serenity of landscape photography. Kenna creates dream-like scenes by combining innovative and traditional photographic techniques.  

This book consists of 50 plates of black and white photographs of the Rouge, a symbol of American industrial might, located ten miles from downtown Detroit. Since 1917, this industrial plant has been a witness to the history of modern America. The Rouge poetically captures the stark realities and hidden beauty of the industrial landscape.
