Henri Cartier-Bresson was born in Canteloup, Seine et Marne, France, in 1908. Though he studied painting and literature at university, Cartier-Bresson is known for the photography career he began in 1931. Working in India, Burma, Pakistan, China and Indonesia; the U.S.S.R.; Cuba, Mexico, and Canada; and India and Japan, Cartier-Bresson has an expansive worldview. He received the 1959 Prix de la Société Française de la Photographie and the Overseas Press Club of America Award five times.
